"RESPECT" Teen Dating Violence and Abuse Awareness Week

The Domestic Violence Center (DVC) and Carolyn Brown of the Cavaliers Better Halves have teamed up to educate the community’s teens about Teen Dating Violence and Abuse. Each year since 2006, the Senate has declared the first week in February as “National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week”.

The Senate resolution calls on people to educate their communities about this issue by planning activities that raise awareness. According to the website “Loveisrespect.org”, Teenage Research Unlimited conducted a study in 2006 to delve deeper into the issue of teen dating abuse, and the results showed that alarming numbers of teens experience and accept abusive behavior in dating relationships.

DVC and Carolyn Brown have planned several awareness-raising activities in Cleveland for Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week in 2010, including an Awareness Night at the Quicken Loans Arena during a Cavaliers game. The evening will include a performance by the “Scream Team” during halftime that will promote respect.
