The Domestic Violence Center (DVC) is excited to announce that Johanna Orozco, DVC’s Teen Educator, will appear on Oprah on Thursday, July 22nd from 4pm-5pm.
Johanna Orozco is a Cleveland native whose story of teen dating violence is nationally known. After DVC approached the Oprah Winfrey Show asking them to highlight teen dating violence and recognize Teen Dating Violence Week in February 2010, Johanna Orozco got the call! Representatives from the Oprah show invited her to fly out to Chicago , meet Oprah and tape the show. It was very exciting!
In 2007, Johanna was shot in the face by her abusive ex-boyfriend. Johanna’s story is one of courage, hope and recovery. Johanna is now employed by the Domestic Violence Center as a Teen Educator. Johanna works to educate the youth in our community about healthy and unhealthy relationships. She also played a major role in getting legislation passed, HB 10, that allows teenagers in abusive dating relationships to obtain protection orders. A true victory – since she was unable to obtain a protection order when she was victimized because the perpetrator was a minor. This legislation will increase the safety of many teens in Ohio .
Tune in to Oprah on Thursday, July 22nd at 4pm to hear Johanna and Oprah discuss teen dating violence – and to hear Johanna’s story and what she is doing today at DVC to help other teens.
